Blanton Family: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PMSS COLLECTIONS
Calvin Blanton, brother of Delia Blanton Creech, owned the sawmill that was used to saw lumber for the home of Charles Creech, his nephew, and Ruth Smith Creech. Charles was the son of Delia and Henry C. Creech. Their home is now known as Creech Cottage and, since 1950, used as housing for PMSS workers. RUTH SMITH CREECH
Chester Blanton is mentioned in a letter written by Marguerite Butler, PMSS teacher, as one of three PMSS students who attended a conference in Middlesboro, KY. 1920 MARGUERITE BUTLER LETTERS, Letter 8.
Clyde Blanton was listed as a cast member of “The Valiant,” a senior high school production at PMSS in February 1936. THE PINE CONE 1936

Clyde Blanton was suggested in a letter dated June 15, 1937, from Arthur Dodd to Glyn Morris to replace teacher August Angel who was leaving. ARTHUR W. DODD CORRESPONDENCE, Image 086.
Delia (‘Delie”) Blanton Creech was born on October 19, 1888, to William and China Blanton. As of the 1900 U.S. Census, she was the youngest of four children (Delia, Calvin, Susan and Jessie). Henry Creech, at age 28, married 18-year-old Delia Blanton in approximately 1906. Over a period of more than 20 years, they had 8 children. The 1930 U.S. Census lists their names and ages as Elsie 22, Oma 21, Wilmer (Wilma?) 13, James Charles 11, Everlin (Evelyn?) 7, Robert 7, Rosa Lee (Rosalie?) 5, and Angela, who was born that year. Two additional children died before adulthood: Crystal in a fire at age 3 1/2 and an infant of diphtheria. Delia died on August 22, 1975. HENRY C. CREECH Biography

Janey Blanton and Jimmy Blanton are listed among the seniors who graduated from PMSS in 1947. 1947 GRADUATING CLASS
Robert Blanton is listed as one of four editors of NONESUCH, a student newsletter. The others were Charles Hollins, Paul Hayes (future PMSS director), and Fred Jones. NONESUCH, was published only once, in December 1939, was spawned by student discontent with the current elected student officers & the Pine Cone student publication. NONESUCH
Robert Blanton played a part in School’s 1940 production of “H.M.S. Pinafore,” a two-act operetta written by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. “H.M.S. PINAFORE” PRODUCTIONS
Robert Blanton was author of an editorial, “What Youth Should Be,” that appeared in the 1941 issue of “Conifer” a PMSS student publication. CONIFER – 1941, page 22.
Sarah Blanton Nolan married Calvin H. Nolan and had a daughter named Elizabeth (Lizzie) Nolan, and 5 other children, according to a genealogy report sent to PMSS by Cora Richardson of Corbin, KY. NOLAN FAMILY
