ARCHIVE POLICIES and PROCEDURES

Archival collections, moving. Boys House. Archive/Library room.
The Pine Mountain Settlement School Archive is extensive, old, fragile, and under construction indefinitely. It has been visited and arranged and re-arranged frequently over the years by secretaries, visitors, archivists, librarians, and the infrequent rodent and leaking wall. The evidence of policies and procedures also show up infrequently in its history. Now, many of the documents, images, and housings of the collections (the collections are not singular) are well over 100 years old.
The current keepers of the collections do not live on site. One lives in Phoenix, AZ and the other lives in Asheville, NC. They both rely heavily on digital surrogates and intense work-days at the School.
Fundamentally, but not rigidly, the keepers follow the guidelines put forward by the University of California libraries Efficient Archival Processing Guidelines and a review of other institutional repositories.
