ARCHIVE Index to Series and Guides

The ARCHIVE INDEX TO SERIES AND GUIDES is a brief but comprehensive listing of series and guides to the large collections of archival and physical material in the Pine Mountain Settlement School Archive. The ARCHIVE INDEX is centered on the earliest years of the institution, often called the “Boarding School years” but is not limited to those years The materials in the Archive may cross several search areas that outine more recent times.

This INDEX is provided as another tool to assist users in their search for material related to the governance and the history of Pine Mountain Settlement School, its programs, its Community, and its associated people. The institution has persisted for over one-hundred years and has adapted through cultural change, wars, economic hardships and economic booms. Throughout its histroy it has focused on education and a commitment to the many cultures of Appalachia. The accommodation to social and economic shifts, the belief that we are all stewards of our environment and that education makes that journey more meaningful, fills the archival record. The deeply held ideas found throughout this archival record are not just Appalachian, but stretch around the world — just as one of the founders, Uncle William, would have wanted. The record is not complete. It continues to grow forward
