The 1949 Berea College and Pine Mountain Settlement School Resolution is a document concerning the nature of Berea College‘s relationship with Pine Mountain Settlement School (PMSS).

Berea College’s Board of Trustees proposed that PMSS elect a new board that would include Berea’s trustees. In addition, Berea College proposed that Berea would  “…not contribute any funds to the cost of operation of the Pine Mountain Settlement School.” In other words, Berea would not financially support PMSS operations.

Two weeks later, on May 6, the PMSS Board of Trustees accepted the resolution for Berea to “take over the operation of the Pine Mountain Settlement School …”  and to ” … undertake to have the Advisory Board of Pine Mountain Settlement School take any further action necessary to give effect to this notion.”
