PINE MOUNTAIN LIBRARY
REPORT 1955-56

At the end of the 1955 school year the library for the elementary school contained 4330 volumes of which 1694 are fiction and 2756 non-fiction. The non-fiction total includes 179 reference books. There were 211 pamphlets. during the year 389 books were added and about 30 withdrawn. There were 32 books unaccounted for at the time of the inventory. Numerous books have been mended throughout the year.

For the second year Mrs. Mary Holsinger compiled a subject index to facilitate use of the books. It is being widely used by the students and is a good indication of what a complete indexing of the library would mean to students, teachers, and librarians.

Mrs. Burton Rogers [Mary Rogers] conducted story telling for grades one through five. Grades four through nine were able to check books out weekly under the supervision of Mrs. Charles Creech [Ruth Smith Creech]. Books were checked out regularly to Greasy Mission and irregularly to the Green Hills School.

There seems to be a greater use made of the library by the teachers.

It was decided to have Mrs. Rogers open the library during the summer before the movies. A deposit of .50 cents per book will be required.
