The following Gallery holds images of the Lease Agreement for Coal Mine at Pine Mountain Settlement School. This PMSS coal mine was opened in 1940 to satisfy the need for coal during WWII when all local coal was being used for the war.

The mining was done by local men who had experience in mining. The tragic death of one of the local miners from a “slate fall” within the mine is recorded in the School record.
