HELEN DE LONG AND DE LONG FAMILY Book Donation

INVENTORY 2015 OCTOBER

In the Fall of 2015 an inventory of the Helen de Long Donation was done and an attempt was made to identify books representing the initial donation. Only items identified by book-plate or association were aggregated for the following list. The total count was around 72 books, only a fraction of the original donation. Clearly many of the original books in the 350+ collection had been removed to the general book holdings at Pine Mountain and expect to be identified when the final inventory of SPECIAL AND APPALACHIAN BOOKS is completed. They will then be identified in the general database as DE LONG DONATIONS.

When compared to the identified KATHERINE PETTIT BOOK COLLECTION, the book titles and authors tell us much about the interests and reading habits of the two women who co-founded Pine Mountain Settlement School. Books with Ethel de Long’s name or book-plate have not yet been identified separately in the following list and include books collected by Helen de Long and her mother, Arabella de Long. See CORRESPONDENCE, above.
