VERTICAL FILE

A large collection of ephemera derived from local news sources, magazines, and personal contributions. The material is often peripheral to the main Pine Mountain Settlement School archival holdings but is relevant to an understanding of the surrounding Appalachian region.

A vertical file is often described as a collection of materials that can enhance the knowledge of a topic found in an archive or library. It is most often comprised of a variety of printed items such as: news clippings, brochures, programs, flyers, newsletters, periodical articles, biographies, email announcements, press releases, etc.

The material is often useful in building a background for regional and local supplementary research materials not directly derived from or related to the Pine Mountain Settlement School histories.
