The Environmental Education (EE) program at Pine Mountain serves nearly 3000 students annually. The instruction in environmental science has grown through the years from its beginning  in 1972 at the instigation of Mary Rogers, a staff member of the School. Later programs continued to adjust to the new interest in hands-on education and environmental education in schools throughout the state of Kentucky and beyond, which have taken advantage of the offerings at Pine Mountain Settlement.

Serving both public and private schools, the educational programs are conducted on site and generally accommodate students in buildings at the School and healthy meals in Laurel House, the main dining facility. The stays are usually from 3 days to a week at the School and need to be reserved well in advance. The courses meet a variety of General Education curricula needs.

The following selected photographs show students engaged in typical programs.
