June 001 June 1930. To the Board of Trustees and the Advisory Board from Hubert Hadley, Director, who is following a “watchful, waiting policy.” Therefore, he will “initiate only those changes of policy that present circumstances demand….” He asked Miss [Ruth B.] Gaines and Mr. [B.C.] Callahan, who are in charge of the students, to limit the amount of student labor in the summer, due to the “financial depression” and the need for students to get vocational training through work/study during the school term. Farming has gone “fairly well,” in spite of unfavorable weather. The new power plant is functioning but needs a “new batter set.” The reservoir has been cleaned and crayfish holes have been filled with cement. “The water supply, however, is yet a real problem….” Laurel House Kitchen has been painted. Miss [Angela] Melville left PMSS. Hadley and Mr. R.E. Samuels (Trustee) attended a meeting of the State Road Commission in Frankfort about the road over the mountain. Encloses a financial statement.

Sept 001 (Page 1) September and October 1930. Three-page report to Board of Trustees and the Advisory Board from Hubert Hadley, Director, concerning the following:  “the usual cases of ‘home-sickness’” in early September; twelve students had eyes examined and glasses fitted in Harlan; vaccinations; water was restricted due to low reservoir; Miss [Becky Mae] Huff returned from a Boston folk-dance school; straightening of Isaac’s Run to reduce flood danger and increase garden land; Pine Mountain Fair Day on September 27; preparations for winter; coal mine; enlarging light plant housing; painting school house; feed and hay deliveries – “The cost of the feeds brings the unhappy realization that our farm and dairy and poultry departments produce good foods at very high prices.”; Little School history and explanation; 
Sept 002 (Page 2) Little School, continued; (October) receipt of “re-bound” The Pine Mountain Ballads from the bindery; October NOTES; draining of the reservoir to search for leaks; swimming pool; student fire-fighting squads; Halloween party; enclosed Financial Statements; 
Sept 003 (Page 3) Financial Statements, continued. “…the cost of operating the school was $2800.79 more than the income.”; receipt of $5000 bequest from Mrs. Julia B. Schauffler; FINANCIAL REPORT for September 1930.

Nov 001 (Page 1) November and December 1930. Two-page report for the months of November and December 1930 to the Board of Trustees and the Advisory Board from Hubert Hadley, Director, concerning the following: Mr. [Peder] Moller arrived from Denmark to oversee the Farm; the cold spell resulted in tender celery; three pianos were placed in Big Log House, Far House, and Farm House; use of old coal mine and opening a new one; the Community School (grades 1-5) gave a patriotic assembly program on November 11;
Nov 002 (Page 2) visitors in November included Elisabeth (sic) Hench, Kitty Russell, Harriet Crutchfield, Allen Loomis; Thanksgiving Services were conducted by Mr. [Rev. Robert] Stapleton; end of drought and “water shortage”; steps built up Infirmary hill; new Power Plan house; Christmas customs and vacations.
