The 1968 PMSS Calendar is very simple in its concept and design and economical in its use of material. In many ways, it reflects the economic downturn during the late 1960’s at the School.
The two small birds, drawn by Mary Rogers are active and lovingly reproduced. One can imagine Mary looking out her window at the two fellow travelers. She would have to have drawn quickly and then most likely pulled from her memory a scene that is repeated over and again at the School.
Just outside the Library window in old Boy’s House at Pine Mountain is a PawPaw Tree that is often filled with tempting blossoms in the Spring. Perhaps this was her inspiration.
An appeal letter from Burton Rogers. Mary’s husband and School Director accompanies the calendar. These annual appeals to friends and donors from School Directors are important to the survival of the institution even today and many remember with fondness the calenders created with such loving care for the environment at Pine Mountain.
GRATITUDE AND GOOD WISHES continue to go out to the friends of Pine Mountain.
