LOREN KRAMER 04/2022 DONATION

LETTER ACCOMPANYING DONATED MATERIALS

Letter 3-11-22 from Loren Kramer, Donor

[Excerpts] “The stories which you and Ann continue to develop/tell are so important for anyone to understand the extensive history and foundation of an “extraordinary and prescient” school — the Pine Mountain Settlement School has always been and continues to be. You two are contributing so much that no one else I know could contribute.

I’ve sorted what small amount of materials I have, …The small box includes mainly the 2 years (1968-1970)

        • The thoughts and ideas and outlines of a variety of people about Pine Mountain Settlement School and possible future plans.
        • Some promotional material produced by PMSS — flyers, pamphlets having photos and Mary Rogers‘ art sketches.
        • Reports and newsletters from PMSS.
        • My class lists, and a couple of pages of school operations and schedules.
        • Various writings by my students.
        • Plans and outlines for the very first Earth Day event, April 22, 1970, involving students and [the] community. Nancy Sather and Mary Rogers led the planning and coordinated many activities that day, as I remember. It was very impressive!
        • A request from Rebecca Caudill Ayars to Nancy Sather and Loren & Toppy Kramer for our individual thoughts about these times (late 1960s) : my response only.
        • A full envelope of papers and student photos from my own Student Teaching under Mrs. Alma Tipton, grade 2, March, 1961, as part of my education degree program at Berea College
        • Also, an envelope of pictures of Atossa French Kramer’s class, Fall 1968, which became Nancy Sather’s class.
        • Photoprints: Many individual students — my classes (school pictures) ; 10 of activities during the very first Earth Day; a few miscellaneous others.

Feel free to use or not — any of this material, and dispose of any you don’t need. … For my part, you have my permission to make use of any of this.

Again, thank you so much for the amazing project you are giving so much time and energy to accomplish.

In admiration, Loren Kramer
