The following photographs provide an intimate look at the students and staff at Pine Mountain Settlement School in the years from 1937 through 1940. These were the years that the Burkhards were at Pine Mountain, suggesting that many of the photographs are those of Fred J. Burkhard and possibly his wife, Esther Burkhard.

The following is a list of descriptions of each of the photographs. Enclosed within quotes are annotations added by Esther on the backs of the photographs. Not all photographs have been identified. The images are not displayed in numerical order but have been grouped by subjects, where known. Some photographs may duplicate photographs held in other collections and may vary in descriptive information.
