7/26 through 8/16 NOTES Index – An on-going project is currently in progress to fully transcribe each issue of the “Notes from the Pine Mountain Settlement School, a PMSS publication that has been sent to PMSS friends since the early years of the School. To date, transcriptions of issues for the years 1919 (first issue) through 1946 have been transcribed.

7/17 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1942 Oggy to Family FEB – Transcriptions and images of Olive Coolidge’s letters to her family, describing her PMSS work. Also, Morris’s letter to the PMSS Board about her departure.

7/15 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941-1942 PMSS Letters GUIDE – A guide to letters between Olive Coolidge, a PMSS nurse’s aide, and PMSS staff concerning employment. Also, letters to family and fiance concerning PMSS.

7/15 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941-1942 Oggy to Family GUIDE – A guide to letters between Olive Coolidge and her family written during the time she was a nurse’s assistant at Pine Mountain Settlement School.

7/14 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941 Oggy to Family OCT-NOV – Uncover the stories in Olive’s correspondence with her family in 1941 while she served as a nurse’s aide at Pine Mountain Settlement School. Also, a letter dated December 1, 1941, to Olive from Olive Dame Coolidge of Russell Sage Foundation, NY.

6/28 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941 Oggy to Bob SEPT-DEC – Transcriptions and images of letters to Olive Coolidge (“Oggy”), former PMSS nurse assistant (1941-1942), to her fiance in Washington, D.C., planning their marriage as WWII heats up. Also see: OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941 Oggy to Bob AUG-SEPT which has been updated.

May-June – See OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941-1942 Bob and Oggy GUIDE for links to pages of letters between Olive (“Oggy”) and Bob Butman, her fiance. In their long-distance letters they express their loneliness for each other and plan their future marriage as they deal with WWII demands.

4/13 OLIVE COOLIDGE Correspondence 1941 August Applying to PMSS & Family Msgs. 1 – Step into the world of Olive Coolidge at Pine Mountain Settlement School in 1941 through her letters and telegrams with PMSS, family, and fiance. This page provides images and summaries of telegrams, August through November, plus a letter from PMSS, responding to Olive’s application for a position as nurse assistant in the Infirmary.

3/24 STELLA TAYLOR Correspondence II – Summaries and images of 1939 letters depicting efforts to have Stella Taylor, a PMSS student, accepted into Berea School of Nursing. Includes a list of her student records. (Images of her student records are RESTRICTED.) Also, a 1940 letter to PMSS from Stella while at Berea School of Nursing.

UPDATED 3/20 STELLA TAYLOR Correspondence I – Summaries have been added to the first half of correspondence concerning Taylor, 1934-1938, consisting of her application to PMSS, letters on her behalf to Berea College Hospital, her student progress reports, and other material, 1934-1938.

UPDATED 3/17 STELLA TAYLOR Student – Information concerning Taylor’s time at PMSS has been to her biography. Stella Taylor was a 1938 PMSS graduate and descendant of William Creech who donated land for the construction of PMSS. An exemplary student of the Community Program at PMSS, she went on to study nursing, encouraged by PMSS Nurse Grace Rood, and served as a U.S. Army Nurse in WWII.

3/6 ADMIN GENERAL Correspondence 1921 L & N Railroad – Explore the 1921 correspondence of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and the inner workings of this influential company in southeastern Kentucky. Provided are images and summaries of letters between railroad agents and PMSS.

1/5 HELEN KINGSBURY Correspondence, 1942-1961 – Images and summaries of letters to and from a PMSS worker who was a home economics teacher from 1942 to 1947. She continued to keep in touch with the School until 1961. See also: HELEN KINGSBURY Staff, her biography.
