BUILT ENVIRONMENT Draper Building Restoration and Painting Photographs

A 1970s photographic record of the reconstruction and replacement of wood-rot and the painting of the exterior of the DRAPER INDUSTRIAL ARTS Building (1936). Designed by Mary Rockwell Hook, the building was heavily used as a multipurpose classroom building during the Boarding School years and later by the Community School programs. Maintenance areas and industrial training courses were generally taught on the ground level. A wood-working shop on the west end of the building has been in continuous use since the construction. Now it houses various classrooms for educational offerings for the visiting schools and a large and exemplary weaving studio on the third floor.
