MAY DAY 1948

The program for the 1948 MAY DAY is very brief compared to previous years. The program includes the standard announcement of time and date and a list of the dances to be performed. The cover artist appears to be Mary Rogers but is not confirmed by her usual signature. Further, the image appears to be a block-print and not Mary’s characteristic drawing. The dancing figure is the “Hobby Horse”, a  character from the Morris Dance series. An English version may be seen in the Hobby Horse video.

To see how an Appalachian Morris group in Asheville, NC, goes about their Morris dancing follow Asheville Morris.
