[Note: Letters from PMSS staff in the PMSS Collections are carbon copies, typewritten, unsigned, and meant for the Office files. The original signed copies were sent to the correspondents. The initials at the bottom left of most PMSS letters indicate the writer (along with initials of the secretary). For example, “EZ” are the initials for Ethel de Long Zande.]

001 March 11, 1921. To Mrs. W.G. Cathcart, Care Mrs. C.C. Holton, London, Ohio, from EZ (Ethel de Long Zande), expressing appreciation for the $150 enclosed in Celia [Cathcart]’s letter for a PMSS scholarship. She tells of the students eating rice and cocoa for dinner once a week to save money for the China Fund. “Celia says you want to make this subscription annual,” so Zande encloses a subscription blank.

002 March 17, 1921. To Mrs. W.G. Cathcart, Care Mrs. Caryl Holton, London, Ohio, from EZ (Zande), thanking her for returning her signed contribution card and “lovely note.” Describes a “dogwood tree outside my window, and the other day I counted fourteen redbirds in it!”
