Antoinette Bigelow (1867-1939) was a colleague of Ethel de Long at Springfield High School, Massachusetts. In 1904, she became principal at Hindman Settlement School and was responsible for introducing Ethel to settlement work in the Kentucky mountains. In 1910, she became Dean of Women at the University of Colorado (Boulder) and Ethel succeeded her as principal at Hindman leading to her involvement in the creation of Pine Mountain.
