TAGS: PMSS Subject File I, Mary Rogers, historical papers, archive projects, card catalogs, subjects, transcriptions
During the years from the early 1940s through 1983, Mary Rogers worked in many positions at Pine Mountain Settlement School — teacher, artist, naturalist, volunteer librarian, environmental education supervisor, community outreach staff member, and housemother — but still found time to document the School’s historical papers. PMSS SUBJECT FILE I provides an example of her dedication to preserving PMSS history.
As one of her archive projects, Mary created a catalog consisting of 4″ x 5″ orange index cards on which she wrote by hand or typed information about a variety of historical papers dated 1899 through 1949, recording the authors, contents, and locations of the material. Stored in the drawer of a small wooden file box, the cards were arranged alphabetically by subject, such as people, crafts, correspondence, publications, buildings, and educational programs.
The two tables below list these cards and the information they contained. The first table displays a row for each card with selected information for quick viewing. The second table lists the same cards but provides complete information found on each card.
